The Car

In our inaugural year of introducing the CRC Build for the Future Scholarship, CRC is proud to sponsor a special build that will be auctioned to raise funding for trade school scholarships  – a reimagined 2006 Pontiac GTO with less than 1400 miles – an American classic for sure. But did you know that this formidable vehicle originated in Australia?

During the 1960s, an acclaimed Australian car called the Monaro made its first appearance under the Holden brand. It swiftly gained renown for its robust performance and striking design, catching the attention of automobile aficionados across the globe including those at Pontiac, a division of General Motors.

In 2004. Pontiac made the decision to introduce the Australian Monaro to American soil, recognizing its potential to make waves in the American muscle car market.

Upon its arrival in the US, it was rebranded as the Pontiac GTO. The 2006 model year served as the final iteration of this reincarnation of the GTO nameplate, which makes our 2006 GTO rebuild project extra special.

Powered by a formidable V8 engine capable of producing awe-inspiring power and  thunderous exhaust, this variant of the Monaro inherited its Australian predecessors’ spirit.

With its sleek, muscular body, commanding front grille and aggressive styling, be prepared for heads to turn wherever this unique machine may roam. The GTO truly stands out, as it embodied all that is synonymous with classic American muscle cars.
